"Swimming in Canoes" is a narration written in the informative style. Descriptive writing supported by the memories from the personal experience makes the credibility statement stronger. Writer's vivid language illustrates the story in the tiny detailes and, therefore, helps the reader to understand the emotional state of the story-teller, feel his fear or share his shiver of excitement.

  2. To me, the most standing out characteristic McPhee uses in this essay is the tone. It is very dynamic and exciting. I enjoyed a lot reading this "kind of adventure" he had with his canoes. McPhee also uses vivid images for describing his experiences "dealing with his canoe and developing the art of propelling a canoe without a paddle". He also achieved to make it resonant. Swimming with a canoe, jouncing and overturned it, it is something that for sure I'll try to attempt in the future. Finally I'm sure his aim was let us know how amazing and fun can be "to have a special relationship with a canoe like he did".

  3. McPhee used many characteristics, but the ones that stood out in the essay the most was point of view, imagery and voice.
The voice of the essay was compelling, very exciting: showed that the author was very enthusiastic about canoes.
He also uses the multiple person point of view (in some ways even though the narration is subjected to 1st person..) where he incorporates in the essay "I, us, You, we" I think he did this to clarify certain points in the essay, drawing us in (paragraph 2,3,4).
While reading the essay, images of jouncing with the canoes and in the grotto kept forming in my head. The authors descriptiveness was very effective in the essay. This was the most important characteristic.

  4. The three characteristics that stood out the most were imagery, voice, and point of view. Well as far as imagery goes his description of a canoe was vivid and you were able to picture it in your head it was described as if it was a person. His voice was filled with compassion, and he was very excited about canoes.

  5. Three characteristice Mcphee uses in his story is tone, clarity of his point of view and imagery. McPhee is very descriptive in his story which gives the reader a sense of what is going n , so they can get an image in their head, which is very important. His story is very clear and to the point, theres no confusion. Mcphees tone showed the love and compassion he has for the canoes, and how meaning ful it can be.
