So ... what do you do?

What is that thing that you participate in and contribute to that makes you you?

  1. I travel. I've lived and worked in Japan, made friends in Sweden, fallen in love in Germany. I'm in constant search of the unknowable as an attempt to better understand the world and my role within it. I'm also a writer, hard at work on my first book of poems, and, believe it or not, teaching is not just a job for me: It's an intellectual and creative passion of mine. My job allows a part of me to remain a student, constantly revising my ideas about things I thought I already knew.

  2. My name is Chris Lee. I'm a freshman. I'm from South Korea. My major is undecided but I might consider majoring in arts. I play electric guitar. I started playing electric guitar around two or three months ago. I've fallen in love with the sound of the guitar; it became an inspiration for me to play. I like to get along with my friends at church. And I like playing video games. I'm sort of addicted to video games because I grew up with playing it ever since I was a kid.

  7. Hey what’s up my classmates!!! Well my name is David Hernandez and I am currently trying to obtain my Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice, but that might change through my time at John Jay. I don’t have much to say. I also like to travel. I have been to several different places such as Japan, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic and other areas throughout the U.S. due to the fact that I served in the U.S. Military and also for leisure. I am a big sports fanatic I spend most of my time watching sports and playing cards with my friends and family. The way I think I contribute is through my employment as a city worker and with my continued affiliation with U.S Military. Everyday is a new experience for me and I am always searching for ways to better myself and be able to serve my community. Hopefully John Jay would offer me that missing stepping stone to what I want to achieve in life.

  8. My name is Nina and I am from Ukraine. I've already earned my Bachelor's Degree in Public International Law and now I want to concentrate on American System of Law, which is totally different from European. I also graduated from the music school and I am a pianist at the local Brooklyn Church. I love music, espesially classical and I'm happy that now, living in NY, I have a great opportunity to visit such World Cultural Centers as Metropolitan Opera and Carnegie Hall.

  9. Oh My God! What a great classmates I Have!!! You all are very interesting people. Well, I am Dilenia "the tax preparer", the one that offered you all a discount for this tax season... I believe and trust in God, I am from Dominican Republic (I am very proud of that because I love my country), I am married to an artist and I have a 16 months old precious baby. I also told you that I will need your help and your patience for you to understand what I say because I have a horrible pronuntiation of english language and that's the most important thing I wish to learn in this course: How to get the best way to pronounce words in english. Believe me I am making a big effort to do it, for example, I always have a dictionary with me to confirm what I need to say and What I listened. Finally, in order to response the principal question, I define my self as a person who likes to help, I like to be happy and I enjoy helping people around me, it's my big dream that people do not cry and do not suffer (especially children and old people). I love to help as much as possible to those who come to me and every day I try to be a good person, because, when I do something that I consider inappropriate and wrong, I can not sleep at night, for that reason, I have made a commintment to integrity and full life.

  14. It was once twice actually many times said that there is nothing new under the sun. This phrase is true. I am nothing extradionary. I’m just a regular big time girl in a very complicated world trying to make a name and a difference in the world. All I want is that when I am gone there is some record of my existence I want to be loved and remembered by people. I work mostly full time but changes jobs often I’m not above any legal job I have work at the McDonald’s and I’ve also worked office jobs.

I’m a young mother who had a child at the age of eighteen and everything I do I have my daughter in mind. She is truly my motivation when she is full able to understand life I want to have accomplished something she can brag about. I am the produce of the inner city and a Bi-racial single mother with three children that she birthed herself and several that has used her as a stepping stone over the years. She as well as my terminally ill aunt and my loving mis-lead elderly grandmother are also some of my strong motivations in life. I have a load of cousins and very competitive sister they force me to focus and strive for the better things in life.

I’m am still pretty young and I’m still on a mission to find myself. There for I’m not sure what makes me who I am yet I do know that every passing day I’m peeling back the layers and finding out more and more of myself and I hope one day someday soon that I will know. In taking this class with all these great people and with assignments that forces me to look into me will only put me that much closer to all of my goals. I’m looking forward to this journey, however short and the priceless experiences.
